5 Day Gorilla and Wildlife Safari Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early in the morning, get the best taste of Uganda’s tea or coffee, and after, drive to western Uganda to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is an approximately 5- to 6-hour journey through the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara route, and along the way, you will make a stopover at the Equator for photo opportunities and relaxation. At the Igongo Cultural Center, you will have lunch and then connect to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Accommodation options: Mweya Safari Lodge (luxury), Kyambura Game Lodge (moderate), or Bush Lodge (budget).

Day 2: Game drive and launch cruise

After an early morning breakfast, you will embark on a game drive via the Kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This will get you the best sights at varied wildlife species such as African buffaloes, leopards, African lions, elephants, antelopes, and birds, to mention but a few. Drive back and have an enjoyable lunch. In the afternoon, you have a launch cruise that takes you through the Kazinga Channel. This will reward you with exciting views of the basking Nile crocodiles, hippos, and water birds that make up part of the over 620 bird species that are confined within this pristine park.

Dine and spend a night at Mweya Safari Lodge (luxury), Kyambura Game Lodge (moderate), or Bush Lodge (budget).

Day 3: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Have an enjoyable breakfast and later, drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Impenetrable National Park, southwest of Uganda, through the Ishasha sector, which gets you the best sighting of the rare tree climbing lions. Along the way, make a stopover at the Savanna Resort Hotel for lunch.

Dine and spend a night at Chameleon Hill Lodge, Mahogany Springs Lodge, or Buhoma Lodge (luxury), Gorilla Mist Camp, Silverback Lodge (midrange), or Ruhija Gorilla Friends Camp, Buhoma Community Rest Camp (budget).

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park

Start the day with a tasty cup of tea or coffee, and later, you will join other visitors at any of Bwindi National Park’s trailheads (Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Rushaga) as per your gorilla permit. While here, you will be briefed on the set rules and regulations that you have to observe while on a gorilla trek. This primate adventure may take you about 3 to 8 hours, depending on your hiking speed, the nature of the habitat, and the location of the gorillas. In other words, it is a strenuous adventure that requires you to be physically fit, and most importantly, don’t forget to come with some packed lunch or snacks and bottled water. Upon finding your assigned gorilla family, you have 1 hour with these unique creatures face-to-face. After, get back to the lodge, and in the evening, you can embark on a community walk in the Batwa community, where you will have a chance to learn more about the Batwa pygmies’ cultures and customs.

Dine and spend a night at Chameleon Hill Lodge, Mahogany Springs Lodge, or Buhoma Lodge (luxury), Gorilla Mist Camp, Silverback Lodge (midrange), or Ruhija Gorilla Friends Camp, Buhoma Community Rest Camp (budget).

Have an enjoyable breakfast and later, embark on a return journey to Kampala.
